Pride has always been inherently political, especially everyday living for Black LGBQ trans and gender diverse persons. Black LGBTQ Justice Canada stands proudly at the intersectional futures of Black liberation, social justice, and queer justice, challenging cisnormativity and colonial frameworks. Our mission is rooted in the belief that true equity cannot exist without centering the voices, experiences, and leadership of Black LGBTQ people.
Pride is more than a celebration – it is a call to action for better Black LGBTQ and gender diverse futures. It is a reminder of the resilience of our ancestors, the courage of our communities, and the ongoing fight for justice in the face of systemic anti-Black racism, homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of oppression. For Black LGBTQ and gender diverse people, Pride is a community of ancestral acknowledgment, care, protest, power, joy and resistance.
Our work is vital. We advocate for policies that protect and uplift Black queer and trans lives. We create spaces for healing, empowerment, and community. We challenge institutions to confront anti-Blackness and queerphobia. And we amplify the brilliance, creativity, and leadership of Black LGBTQ and gender diverse people across Canada.
This Pride season, we recommit to our vision of a just caring and liberated future – one where Black LGBTQ and gender diverse people are safe, celebrated, and free. We invite our partners, social justice activists, and communities to stand with us, not just in June, but every day of the year.
